i have 2 scenarios needing help.


1.
I want to remove multiple paragraphs in a document repeating the same thing.

for instance, i want to remove :

answer -
this is Jake
and he likes to
play basketball.


and replace it with NOTHING (not even a space). how do i use the find and replace function to eliminate all the paragraphs with those words? it seems to take in words only instead of paragraphs.


2.

i want to remove paragraphs which start with a particular word.

E.g.

Answer 1 : Jake is a boy
Answer 2 : Joe likes to play.

Any PARAGRAPH that starts with 'Answer' should be automatically removed.

how do i do it?

For 1, a simple Find/Replace should be able to do it. All you need to do is to input the text to be deleted into the Find dialogue. Just make sure to not delete the one you want to keep.

For 2, a wildcard Find/Replace should be able to handle it, where:
Find = Answer[!^13]{1,}^13

In both cases, leave the Replace box empty.

the 2nd wildcard format didn't work - it made 0 replacements.

another problem i have is :

i want to turn it to :

question C


but using find/replace with ^p in find box, i get :

question Aquestion Bquestion C


what should be the correct function then?

Did you check the 'use wildcards' option?
If it's just a matter of empty intervening paragraphs, try a wildcard Find/Replace, where:
Find = [^13]{2,}
Replace = ^p

yes i did check the option.



this [Find = [^13]{2,}] does not work too - it collapses everything into one line. i.e.

question Aquestion Bquestion C

Both work fine for me when input as specified for the content you posted. The 'collapsing' suggests you forgot the Replace expression.
