Track Changes doesn't track Change Case changes

I'm a copyeditor whose publishers require that Track Changes be used for all changes to a manuscript. When I change capping using either Shift + F3 or the Change Case icon, the change is not indicated by Track Changes. So I have to change the case of each letter manually to ensure the changes are shown.



Is there a setting I'm not aware of that will track capitalization changes made with Change Case?

This is because uppercase and lowercase aren't formatting in Word; an uppercase and a lowercase character are simply different symbols (look in Windows Character Map). You'd have to mark these changes manually, either by deleting and inserting the text or by adding a comment that explains which changes have been made.

Thanks for the reply, Stephan. However, when I manually substitute a different symbol for a character (uppercase for lowercase or vice versa) using Insert > Symbol, the change is tracked as it should be, so it's not apparent why the Change Case tool (or Shift + F3) doesn't trigger Track Changes.

In any case(!), I guess I'll have to do the job manually.

Good point. I guess that, to Word, inserting a symbol (from the Insert Symbol dialog box) is closer to editing the document than "converting" uppercase to lowercase. When you think about it, this is more or less arbitrary, of course.
