Question 2013: The cursor is hidden if it is aligned with the boundary of the page!

2013: The cursor is hidden if it is aligned with the boundary of the page!

I’m wondering why the cursor disappears if it is aligned exactly with the boundary of the page (screenshot is attached)! In the previous versions it appears even in the case it is identical to the boundary of the page

Thank you for the help

Best

Jamal

I have the same issue! Are you aware you must use 97-2003 document format to see text boundaries? Also if you use this version of Word, you see that version of Word Art - which I like much better than the new one in Office 2007-2010-2013!

There must be a method to see the cursor blinking! I hope someone comes up with a solution!

I cannot live without text boundaries - labels, envelopes and just regular text, text boundaries are a must!

That is not correct. The display of text boundaries is supported in all formats. Indeed, Jamal's second screenshot demonstrates its use with a docx format document!!!

Of course, given that the cursor is typically a narrow I-beam, it's hardly surprising that it can become indistinct when positioned over a vertical line of any kind. If this is a problem for you, you can of course change the cursor's appearance (for all applications) in the Windows Control Panel.

Paul, I appreciate you comments, however, note the file is in (Compatibility mode)! While I do see the docx extension, I do believe the document was created in the Compatibility mode.

I sure cannot make Text Boundaries work in Word 2013 as it worked in previous versions, including the cursor. I do thank you for the tip on changing the cursor however, I do believe the cursor is just not there! When it is aligned with the text boundary, for some reason, it appears to be just gone!

Will keep working, and we will all keep trying.

THANKS MUCH!

Compatibility mode (which not related to the Word 97-2003 doc format) has nothing to do with it either (at least in Word 2010 - and that's what Jamal is using) ...

For your system, the disappearance might simply be a display driver issue. Given how new Win 8 and Office 2013 are, that would hardly be surprising (time and again, merely upgrading Office versions has highlighted display driver issues).

Paul, it seems the issue is with Word 2013, and you caused me to go farther than I have ever been before!

I did change the size of the blinking cursor from 1 to 2 and it worked! I am once again a happy Word user.

Here are the steps.

How to change the size of the cursor in Windows 8 (similar in other Windows OS)

Control Panel

Ease of Access

Make computer easier to use

Snip it does not show, however, you can do it!!!!!

Set the thickness of the blinking cursor: to whatever you desire. Try any number you want, however, 4 is rather think, and 1 (default) is not visible in Text Boundaries in Word!

However, 2 looks so normal! I would suggest using 2 but not much larger! 1 does not show in Text Boundaries in Word 2013, but "2" does!

Good luck.
