Default how do I auto-populate a word template

I have a word template that I use for customers.
I am trying to find a way to have this template auto populate, from information I already have stored in an Access DB.

Example: If I type a primary key into a box, let's say customer ID.
The rest of the template would auto populate with that customers information I already have stored in my Access DB.
Thank you in advance,

It is called Mail Merge and works in all versions of Word since Word 97 at least. I recall using it in Word 3.

Once you've attached your database to your document, you use the "find recipient" button to find your data record. It populates the fields in your document (which you inserted as merge fields) automatically.

Once you have this done, under the Start Merge button you select Normal Word document so that future changes to the database will not change this document.

You start with a Template that holds your merge fields in appropriate places. Have it attached to your database and save it. When you create a new document from the template it will ask if you want this connection to continue. Then under the mailings tab you use the find recipient command.

Yes that would work,
However I kind of want my customers to use the template.
And that would be to much work.

Is there a way to have a log-in function that would then auto-populate the template? Based on their Unique ID

Is it possible? Yes.

Can it be done with a built-in Word function without programming? No.

Is such programming trivial? No. Not in this case. You would want to not only allow the customer to populate it, but also to protect your database from them getting everyone else's data.

This is better handled from the Access end. It could generate merge with a Word template and fill in the information. I do not know how to do that, but believe it would be much easier than trying to protect your database from Word's end.

That's what I was afraid off, but you hit the nail on the head as far as security is concerned. Damn I wish I knew more about programming.
