Default Combo Box

We have a combo box. We want to output a paragraph on the selected option. Is there any way of doing this on word 2010. For example, if drop down box = 1 then output = A. (We’re looking at long paragraph outputs.)

Another problem associated with this is whether we can mail merge information in our outputted paragraph.

Is this combo box one of Word's Content Controls, a combo box on a Word userform, or is some other application (given your mailmerge reference)?

Regarding the mailmerge aspect, it is possible to generate a mailmerge field via the code attached to a combobox, but you'd need to explain more of what you're trying to achieve before specific advice can be given - there may be better ways of achieving the desired result than what you have in mind.

Default Our thoughts

We have thought this is a way of doing it however we are not experienced with word at all so there may be a simpler way.
Thanks

Hi Hinchy,

OK, I can see what you're trying to do with the combo boxes, but I can't see how mailmerge would come into play. It looks as if you want some conditional text, but that's not what you'd use a mailmerge for. Mailermerges are normally used for producing bulk reports/form letters in one go from a datasource, such as a database or Excel workbook. The merge data would typically consist of a list of names & addresses and related data.

Another use, less common, of Mail Merge, is to fill out a form document with variable data, one at a time. Then the form can be customized even further to fit the circumstances.
