Default Repeating Information in Word Document without Forms or VBA?

Dear all,

I'm trying to put the following text in my header:

I'm trying to duplicate the Procedure Name in the Footer:

Now, I tried to follow advice suggested at this website however Word will not let me insert forms into the header or footer.

I'm hesitant to use VBA because this new document will form the basis of our procedures which will be used and reused by others.

Is there any way to repeat that information from the Header Automatically in the Footer without using Forms or VBA?

Any help is sorely appreciated,

Bill

Repeating Data (Populating Multiple Like Fields) also covers bookmarks and Ref fields. (Section 3) They work in headers and footers and do not require vba. You may have to update them manually. Remember that bookmarks are fragile. You'll want to have them displayed.

Hi Bill,

If you have the Procedure ID typed somewhere in the body of the document (eg on a cover page), you can assign the ID a unique Style name use StyleRef fields in the header & footer to replicate that ID on every page. See:

StyleRef fields beat Ref fields hands down because
1. Styles are much more robust than bookmarks
2. The StyleRef field updates without any manual intervention.

Unfortunately, it won't read any style that is only in a header or footer. That is why Paul prefaced his remark by saying "if you have the Procedure ID typed somewhere in the body."

Dear all,

Thanks a bunch for your help. I moved my whole block out of the header and then made a new Style out of the text I wanted to repeat. I then set my field in the footer and it repeated beautifully!

I learned a new trick!

Thanks,

Bill

Paul, Charles:

I decided to add a small piece of SytleRef to the Repeating Data tips page.

Greg,

A useful addition to an already comprehensive reference. Thanks for the heads up.
