I'm working on a company manual in Word 2003, and have encountered a big problem. I have a huge gap that takes up a good 3/4 of one page that needs to be deleted, but I can't seem to select that space at all to adjust or delete anything. Here's a look at the gap: http://i.imgur.com/ODhtH.jpg

What is the first thing I should try in a situation like this?

Turn on display of non-printing formatting characters. It is the backwards "P" on your toolbar. You can also toggle this setting by pressing Ctrl-* (Ctrl-Shift-8).

There is either a page break, a series of paragraph marks, or the paragraph following this has a paragraph setting of page break before.

I turned this on and found that there's a section break on the page: http://i.imgur.com/HY1oQ.jpg I can't figure out how to delete it, though.

Work in a copy of your document. Section breaks often carry pagination and header/footer information. Remember, UnDo is your friend.

First try pressing the Delete key. I expect you already tried that.

If that doesn't do it, hold the shift key pressed and tap the down arrow key once. Then press Delete.

Looking at what little I've seen of your document, I strongly suggest taking the hour or so it takes to read through the Basic Concepts series of articles. It will save you loads of time and headaches.

I messed around a bit with the key commands you gave me and got it working. Thank you!

That said, there's another large gap that's shown up and is preventing us from filling up the rest of a page and doing proper page numbering, and displaying the formatting characters still isn't showing anything: http://i.imgur.com/gI9uC.jpg Any thoughts?

Press Enter after "Father In Law" and before the section break to complete that paragraph.
Do you have anything on the following page? Might it be that the beginning paragraph on the next page is formatted to be "page break before."

As I said earlier, there are many ways to arrange a page break. You really do want to read those articles.
