Default Automate custom/complex page numbering

I want to automate the page number of "point pages" which are change pages that are inserted into an existing document. I need the page number of the change page to display in the TOC. The point page consists of chapter number and page number plus a dot then the number. Example: Chapter 1, page 1, .1 = 1-1.1. I haven't been able to figure out how to automate the page number to include the ".1". Please help. Thanks!

Hi Katherine,

A Word TOC won't capture 'manual' page # additions. Unless you use the 'include chapter heading' feature (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290953) and make the 'dot then the number' part of the chaprter heading also, all you'll get is the standard numbering.

Thanks, Paul for responding so quickly, and for the links. Is it possible to use field coding to automate the page numbering to include the addition of the point page (see underline), ie. 1-1.1?

It is not possible to get such pages in the TOC.

You may not have control over it, but in today's age of electronic document production, such page numbering is insane. It has caused major problems including loss of a refinery according to John McGhie. http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Numbering/ChapterNumber.htm
It may well be the way it has always been done, but it is simpler to replace the entire work and document revisions using something like track changes.
