Default Create automatically updating fields in Word 2010

Sorry for such a simple question I have searched but not found what I need.
How can I create a field that the user can input either text or date etc. and have this automatically update field positions elsewhere in the document.
Inserting document properties seems to do this just fine but I can't modify the names of each property. Is there a way to create custom fileds such as this?

Thank you for your reply, as it happens I did find that page via google prior to asking and couldn't get it to work, I have tried again still without sucess so I guess I must be doing something wrong.
I attach a test document with the fields in but not working, any help would be much appreciated.

Your sample document works for me. Did you tab out of the text field after inputting something?

For some working examples that do more than just replicate data, see:

I tried out your sample document, and it does just what I'm looking for... BUT I don't know how you created the link between the fields and the other locations in your document.

Can you share how, or know of a page online that shows how?

Thanks!

Try to look at document in attach

You can try over the Insert> Quick Parts> Field or Document Property / Abstract

Try see Repeating Data
I hope this has helped

Hi Calab,

I've been OS for 3½ months, hence the delay in replying. Have you resolved the issue, or do you still need help?

At this point we decided not to implement this in our documents. It makes them very difficult to edit at a later date.

For now, we are placing text tags into the document and include a table at that top of the document listing the tags. We just search/replace the tags with actual data when we need to.
