Default Customise Normal style with multi-level bullets

I would like to customise the "Normal" style with multi-level bulleting, e.g.

Level 1
  1. Level 2
    • Level 3
How do i do this in 2007? I could do this in older versions.

If the above can be done, is there a keyboard shortcut to enable switching between the levels? In older versions, I used to just press shift+alt+left or right arrow to go up or down a level.

Trust me, you do not want to do this to the normal style in your Normal.dotm (default) template!

I would strongly suggest, instead, creating a custom template you can use for documents where you want this and customizing the built-in heading styles to give you the list you want. How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Word 2007 and Word 2010

I agree completely with Charles: modifying the Normal style to be numbered is not a good idea. For one thing, Normal is the parent (based-on) style for many other styles, and you probably don't want numbering to be included with most of your styles.

Instead, set up numbering so that each level is associated with a paragraph style. You don't have to use the built-in headings. Actually, if you are setting up a multilevel list format which is not intended to be used as a set of headings, don't use the built-in headings. The principles discussed in Shauna Kelly's article apply to any set of nine styles.

Wow! I didn't realise I was about to descend down a slippery path of Word mayhem :P Thanks for your advice - will take them seriously and explore other ways. I've just tried to customise the "List" style but associating 1st level with "Normal" style and subsequent levels with other bullet/numbering styles. It works but it will be a behaviour change for me.

Again, review How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Word 2007 and Word 2010.

I would never associate the normal style with any list!
