Default Approve/Reject buttons hang up

This is a Word 2010 bug - I had an IT tech test it with me for about 30 minutes on three separate workstations, and we confirmed it's broken.

You can send a Word document by email attachment and not have this issue, but when you "Send to Mail Recipient" as an inline email message, the Options dialog hangs up for about one to two full minutes before it activates and allows you to click any of the check boxes, or even close it out.

"Send to Mail Recipient" is an option you can only activate by customizing your Quick Access toolbar. The macro is under All Commands. When you place the icon on your toolbar and click it, it turns the Word document into an email message - not as an attachment, but an actual email message.

This is how I send documents to coworkers for approval, and have for years. They type their corrections directly into their email replies, and when the file is ready for approval, I click Options and select Approve/Reject. They just click Approve, and I instantly receive an email notice that the document is good to go without any further effort on anyone's part.

Now, however, the Options dialog is lifeless for what seems like days. It always wakes up eventually, but it's a real time waster. There may be other times when it drags, but we tested a few and the "Send to Email Recipient" option was the only one we found.

From what I gather, Microsoft isn't open to bug reports on Office 2010. If anyone has any thoughts about what might fix it I would appreciate it. It's messing me up.

Thanks

I'd recommend sending Word documents as attachments; when you send them as e-mails you can never be sure that the recipient's e-mail application can interpret the information correctly.

However, if you want to make Microsoft aware of the limitation you have found, try posting a suggestion at http://mymfe.microsoft.com/Office/fe...spx?formID=375.

Thanks for the link. Sending attachments is really inelegant, especially after I've gotten the entire company trained to do it this way. It's also significantly more keystrokes on both ends - I have a real thing about unnecessary keystrokes, and set up every process with the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM. Being incensed over excess keystrokes is one of my quirks, and this particular approval process was extremely artful and graceful at one time. I'm sad that Microsoft broke it.

So I'll contact them. Meanwhile I'm doing other things while the dialog sits there and slowly wakes up.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the follow-up.

For what it's worth, I think you have been lucky before, being able to do it that way without complications. Formatting seems to get lost all the time in e-mails, in my experience.

The problem may, of course, be nothing to do with MS Word or Office in general, but with your OS/network configuration. The delay may reflect nothing more than Word waiting for a response from either of those sources.
