Cannot edit word doc
Have been working on this for the longest time but still am stumped by it
I have a pdf document that I want to edit and as I do not know how to edit pdf documents, I changed it into a word document. I used a pdf converter to convert it to word but can only save it in rtf (rich text file). So I opened the file and tried to edit it but the cursor just won't move (rather, the cursor can move but it's accompanied by four arrows in all directions (north, south, east and west) so I can't edit it. Feeling lost, I converted it to a 97-2003 word file but above same thing happened. So next I tried using the ocr converter which changed my pdf into a word file and it worked except that a logo on the top left hand of my document disappeared. I have tried everything I know but I still can't edit the damnned document. Desperately seeking help and will really appreciate if someone can help me solve this. |

OCR is required to turn a PDF into a format that Word 2002 can read, but you seem to have come past that stage? What is the exact problems with editing that you have now?

A few days ago, I downloaded Adobe Acrobat X Pro for a free trial for 30 days. You can edit text, move pictures around, etc. Just click on Tools.
Or, you could try using it to convert to a MS Word file. Maybe it would work better. |

Maybe I did something wrong, but when I tried to convert a PDF back into Word in Acrobat, it simply created a document with the PDF content inserted as an image. I never bothered with trying that again. I just use Acrobat to make changes.

OK, that's where OCR (optical character recognition) comes in: to make the conversion from a picture to text that a wordprocessor can read. I don't know the exact steps that are required with Adobe Acrobat, though, as I've never used it.

Thanks Stefan
I will attach a photo to illustrate. In the photo, it shows why I can't edit...which is what I meant when I wrote "cursor just won't move (rather, the cursor can move but it's accompanied by four arrows in all directions (north, south, east and west)". Can you help me please? |

Well, there is no text in the picture, as far as I can tell, so there isn't much OCR software could do with this.
Since you have a PDF, maybe you could try one of those online converters (google for them)?

Actually, there is text before although not much and it's just numbers (attached).
And I tried everything I know as detailed in my first post and I'm at my wit's end...sigh |

What you have is a picture of text. It is as hard to edit the text in it as it is to open the door of a picture of a car and drive away. You need OCR software.
