Default XML to Word newby

Dear xml gurus,

I'm writing in Access 2003/XP/ADO (will migrate to SQLserver as .adp after demo runs). I'd like to move all of my reporting to Word via xml (also hope to use xml to persist local temp data, for use in VBA). The problem is, I'm a total pilgrim when it comes to xml.

1. Is this a rediculous approach?

2. Can you lay out a general roadmap, that I'd use to direct my self-education. Right now, I'm lost in all the info that's out there (but reading away, including looking through old posts here--sorry if this is an old question).

Thanks.
