I'm typing an "a" but getting the alpha symbol
I'm working in a particular document, and sometimes when I type the letter "a," I get an alpha symbol instead. I'm not in symbol font because it doesn't happen when I type other letters. And it happens sporadically, not all the time. Any ideas? (I'm in a Word 2010 document on Windows 7 that has Track Changes on and a .dot template applied.) Thanks! |

If it's all 'a' characters, it's probably just how 'a' is represented in the font you're using; otherwise, you may be inadvertently pressing a keystroke shortcut combination or autocorrect entry that's been assigned to the α character (which you should be able to find via Insert|Symbol > α > Shortcut Key/Autocorrect.

Hi, Paul,
Thanks for the reply. I actually checked to see if I had a shortcut key or autocorrect item (just an "a"!) assigned to the alpha symbol, but that was not the case... I ended up just copying the whole document into a new one, and the problem did not recur. I appreciate the advice! Best, N. Perry |
