Research window that won't go away.
I am using Word 2007 to do medical transcription. There are times when I have hit something, I don't know what, but the research pane comes up. I cannot get the thing to turn off, but what's worse is it locks up my keyboard so I can't write anything to even google to try to find an answer. I inevitably have to get out of the program I'm using and restart my computer. Can someone please tell me how to turn the pane off and keep my sanity.

If this is happening everytime you open Word, you may have to repair the Microsoft Office installation by reinserting your MS Office CD and following the instructions.

You may also want to look at this thread, which gives a way to disable the research pane permanently.

Venky: Repairing/Reinstalling Office (which is what inserting the CD initiates) is complete overkill and won't resolve the problem anyway. Furthermore, you don't need to CD to Repair Office - it can be done via 'Programs & Features' in the Windows Control Panel.
