Default Word 2007 Headings: Adjusting Space Between Numbering and Text

In Word 2007:

When I get to high-numbered subsections, the heading numbering and title text don't have any spacing between them.

For example:
1.11.1 Text
1.11.2 Text
...
1.11.10Text

How do I adjust this? Thanks in advance.

This is because in the higher sections, you are having a two-digit number (10 and above). You can solve this by adjusting the width of the hanging indent of your paragraphs. Select all your paragraphs. Right-click and choose Paragraph... from the short-cut menu. In the Indentation section of the Paragraph dialog box, increase the amount of hanging indent until you see all the paragraphs lining up properly. That should solve your problem.

Which styles? All styles or just Headings?

You don't need to change the style, if you don't want to. Just select all the paragraphs to which you have applied this numbering, and then follow the procedure i suggested before.

Thanks but, as a rule, I use styles. So I'll make the necessary adjustments. Thanks again.

Note that for Word 2007 (and later) you should change the indentation for numbered lists via the multilevel list dialog box, not via the Modify Style dialog box. Place the insertion point in the first list item (meaning the first Heading 1 paragraph of the document, in this case). On the Home tab, click Multilevel List | Define New Multilevel List. For assistance with the options in the dialog box, take a look at http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...g20072010.html.
