I want to have a form that they can only access the fillable areas. I do want them to be able to change their answers and make corrections, though. When I protect it the all caps and underline doesn't work. I just thought it would be more professional to have their answers underlined. Are there different ways to protect? I'm not sure why it's working for you and not on my computer???

Charles' document doesn't preserve the underlining or caps when I protect it either.

Here's a workaround:
• create a character Style named, say, 'FFCapUl', with the font set to 'Single underline' with automatic colouring and 'All Caps';
• apply the 'FFCapUl' character Style to each formfield you want formatted that way.
If there are other formfields you want underlined only, do likewise with another character style named, say, 'FFUl' (with the font set to 'Single underline' with automatic colouring).

Now, when you protect the document, the formatting will hold.

You can't have the fields and not have them grey only when your user has answered a question if you want them to be able to change the answers.

Of course you can! You can toggle field shading in general on/off or on only when selected and you can toggle formfield shading on/off. The only sense in which cindra's specs can't be met is in having the shading change according to whether anything has been input. In any event, none of this affects the printout.
