Default Black border to left of image

When I copy an image into word a black border sporadically appears to the left of my image. I have read about other people with black border issues BUT my problem seems to be different. The border is immediately to the left of the border, witin the text area. If I type in this area the black region grows larger in accordance with additional text.

The black regions also sometimes appear to the right, top and bottom.

Please see the attached image for an example. I have added lots of text to the left of the image to enlarge the black region.

I have tried all the obvious solutions to fix the problem, but nothing works.

Any help much appreciated.

Any chance this is an artifact of how you are copying the image. Are you using Paste or Insert? What kind of file is the original image file?

I was using copy and paste. Is insert a more robust method? This was with a .png file but it has happened with .jpgs too.

What I don't understand is why I can't find other people on the net who have experienced the same problem.

Whilst people do sometimes have isses with Word creating border artefacts due to image compression, what you've posted is nothing like that. It suggests the original image contains the black region, which might simply have been hidden from view.

But it only happens perhaps 25% of the time. After waiting a while, and copying it to a different section within the word doc, the same image will copy fine, with no black border.

Does it affect the printout? If not it may be just a display driver issue. In that case, I'd suggest repairing checking your display driver's website for an updated driver. Failing that, I'd suggest repairing Word, to see if that makes a difference (Word Options|Resources|Diagnose).
