Default Mask mode and hyphens

Hello,

Using Word 2007
I'm wondering why when you mask a phrase so it does not print that hyphens "-" remain visible? Is that normal?

thanks,

Luke

I don't understand what you mean by "mask a phrase." Are you talking about setting a font formatting as hidden?

I normally turn off automatic hyphenation. Are the hyphens you refer to automatic or are they ones you type in?

Thanks for your reply.
Yes, it's the French term but "hidden" is what I meant.
If I have a bulleted list, or hyphened list, the hyphens remain visible but the rest of the sentence will be hidden. Does not make much sense that an hyphen (automatic or not) should not be hidden.
Why is that?

So, we are talking about a form of "bullet" in a list, not a word divider.

On my system if I mark all of the text in a bulleted paragraph as "hidden," the bullet is hidden as is the paragraph mark. If for some reason the paragraph mark is formatted as not hidden, then it and the bullet both appear.

It helps in diagnosing these things to have the non-printing formatting marks displayed. Ctrl-Shift-8 (Ctrl-*) If when these are showing you select the paragraph mark following your hidden text, check the font formatting. Is it marked as hidden?

Hi Luke,

Can you attach the document to a post to show the issue (delete any sensitive data)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab.

Morning Paul,

Well, I played around and it was really that either the hard return before and/or after the hidden text was not also formatted as "hidden" which made the hyphen appear! You solved it for me.

Thanks for your help!
It's appreciated.

Have a good day!

Luke
