Default Index Office 2010

Hi,
For some reason i cannot get rid of the grey sitting behind the index, this is part of the index, so making the text background white does not work.

Its driving everyone mad here, can someone help me get rid of this, its doing my head in.

Regards

That suggests you have field shading switched on. You can change the shading behaviour via File|Options|Advanced > Show Document Content > Field Shading.

Unless you have some background shading applied to the index content, changing the Field Shading option to 'Never' or 'When Selected' will affect the display.

If you attach an extract from document to a post (delete any sensitive data) showing some problem index entries, I'll take a look at it. You attach files via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab.

What you have posted is not an Index, but a Table of Contents.

With the field shading option turned off, it is apparent that your second-level entries (which use the TOC3 Style) have background shading applied. You can fix that by selecting the whole of one such line, using the shading bucket icon on the Ribbon's Home tab (paragraph panel) to change the shading to nothing. Then right-click on the paragraph marker (¶) at the end of the line, choose Styles > Update TOC3 to match selection.

It's really no different than in, say, Word 2003.

FWIW, the TOC shading is not Word's default. Someone has deliberately changed it for your document or its template.
