Default line and ?object at bottom of page in word 2007 doc

On page one of a book I am writing there is a line at the bottom of the page and an odd oblong object along with the number "1" in the right margin neither of which I want. I'll send it to you and would appreciate any help.

Thanks, Britt Daniel

Hi Britt,

Your attached document doesn't seem to have either of the artefacts you describe.

Looks like something added from the footer gallery. If you activate the header/footer view by double-clicking the header, you should then be able to select and delete the item.

Hi Britt,

If you could post a copy of the document that has the problem content, we might be able to give more help. it is difficult to see from the image what the artefacts are.

It looks like a paragraph border. To get rid of it, select all (Ctrl+A) in the footer; then click the arrow on the border button (in the Paragraph group) and click No Border from the drop down menu.

For anyone to tell for certain that it is a paragraph border, you'd have to attach a file in Word format, though.
