Help! I am writing a textbook. In the middle of my 5th chapter, the spell check and grammer check stopped working. It is working on all previous documents and will work if I start a new document. It works on the first poart of the fifth chapter. I just can't get it work on the second half of my current document. Here is what I get if I go to Review and Spelling/Grammar Check: "The spelling and grammar check is complete. Text marked with "Do not check spelling or grammar" was skipped. Why is it skipped? Help!

Try using File|Options|Proofing > Check Document to reset the spell-checking.

Try clicking on a misspelled word and pressing Shift+F1. You should see something like this:



Under Font formatting does it say : Language: Do not check spelling or grammar?

The screenshot above is from a computer with only one language installed, with spelling and grammar installed and active. This is a character(font)-level formatting in Word.

In that case, ensure the language/proofing settings are correct, via Ctrl-A (to select the whole document), then Review|Language. Confirm that the appropriate language is selected and that the 'Do not check spelling and grammar' option is NOT checked.

Thanks. Didn't do anything. The strange thing is that the change in Spell Check occurred in the middle of a document! I didn't go into Options or anything similar!

Can you attach an extract from document to a post (delete any sensitive data) containing some of the content from before and after the change? You can do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab.
