Default Change hyphens to dashes isn't working in XP (Word 2007)

In the AutoFormat as you type settings, I have it set to automatically change hyphens to dashes but it's not working in XP. It was doing the same thing in Vista but I was able to fix it by disabling the setting then re-enabling it, but it didn't work in XP. I searched online but I'm not finding anything. Can anyone think of a reason why it might be doing this? but Thanks.
