Default Find and Replace is not working

Hello,

For some reason, the Find and Replace is not working. When I type in a word that exists in the document, the response is : "The item was not found". Can you please help.

Thank you

Did you get this resolved?

things to check....
Do you have some of the document selected? I think FIND might search selected text

Expand Find Options via the More control
- Match Case
- Match Whole Words Only

Yes, thank you for following up. The situation has been resolved.

I restarted my computer and everything is back to normal. I am still puzzled though as to why it happened.
When I had the problem, I did check the options "Match Case" and "Match Whole Words Only" but it did not make any difference.

Have done all the checks, but it won't find anything even though it is right in front of me and on the page! Even used Select All but zip. Any ideas?

I had the same issue this morning. Took me about an hour to figure out. My problem was that I had "Outline" selected under Formatting options under the Find tab in the Editing dialog box. What you want is "No Formatting" selected. If you've upgraded from an old version of Word, I don't believe this option was available before which is what makes it so unfamiliar and confusing.

Default Find Function Not Working Solution

All, I have searched MSOfficeForums as well as other sites for a solution to this issue. When I noticed the sporadic problem occur, the only solution was to save, exit, re-open. Then, Find would work for a short while, then stop. Yes, I tried all of the suggestions, such as look in values, match case, match entire cell contents, but no luck.

Finally, I dropped the entire spreadsheet into Notepad and pasted back into Excel. Now Find works properly. The data was generated from a mainframe ASCII text file (yes ASCII, through SAS), then imported into Excel. This may be part of the problem, I don't know. Anyway, this seems to be the ONLY solution.

OMG! Thank you! I just got a new PC configured by the company that bought out my company. Who knew there were different versions of MS Office for Windows. I've never had to click "No Formatting" before. I have been ignoring most of these settings for almost 20 years!

I'm not on Office 2019, but Office 365 Enterprise. I have Office for Mac - latest and greatest at home.
