Something happened and now whenever I open or create a document, arrow and paragraph signs/icons are appearing throughout the document, arrows appearing whenever I indent a line, and paragraph signs showing up at the end of each paragraph and where there are blank lines. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of them? Thanks.

Click on the ¶ symbol on the Home tab to toggle the formatting marks on/off. IMHO, it's better to have them on, so you can see what's actually there. These marks don't print, so they're of no consequence in that regard.

Sorry, but I don't follow what you mean when you say "Click on the ¶ symbol on the Home tab." There is a "home" key and a "Tab" ky, but not a Home tab.

He means, in Word, not on the keyboard. In Word, with the Ribbon showing, the Home tab is furthest left. In the Paragraph section (third from left), you'll see the backwards P. Click on that and your symbols will disappear.

See Non-printing display characters explained Once you know what they mean you may want to have them displayed more often than not. They make it much easier to figure out why your page looks like it does when you print it. See also Basic Formatting in Microsoft Word |
