Index - hyphenated page numbers
I'm experimenting with creating an Index for a book I just wrote, and am pleased with my progress so far.
However, let's say I mark a word that is a common word in a particular chapter, so it appears on practically every page of that chapter. Is there any way to make the Index display the page numbers for that entry as 125-132 rather than 125, 126, 127, 128, 129, 130, 131, 132? On that same note, if a particular word seems to be heavily used in a particular part of the book, any way to make it so the index will park those pages in bold? Such as like this: Word: 12, 47, 93, 95, 125-132, 262, 295 It this stuff I just have to go in and format myself, line-by-line, once I've completed the index? Will it allow my to manually combine page numbers like that? |

To get a range of page numbers, you'd have to enclose the range in a bookmark and then add the \r switch, followed by the bookmark name, to the index entry XE field. Similarly, to specify that an entry should be bold, add the \b switch to the XE (index entry) field. To see all index entries in the document, show hidden text (for example by clicking the ¶ button on the Home tab to show/hide nonprinting marks). Update the INDEX field when you have made the changes.
