Default Word 2007 References When Adding Text From File

All,

I am writing my PhD thesis in separate chapters and I am using the in built Word 2007 reference management system.

I am going to obviously collate all the chapters into 1 master document but myself and a friend have noticed that some of these references are being duplicated.

Also I have documents in the master list which have been used for assignments which have nothing to do with the PhD thesis. Is there any way of firstly stopping Word from duplicating these references and also from citing old documents ?

I am under the impression that the references mast list can be exported and maybe use OneNote but is this possible without screwing up the other chapters ?

Cheers

Grant

Are you by any chance using the Master Documents Feature in Microsoft Word? Read the article at the link.

John McGhie put it succinctly when he said that "there are two kinds of Master Documents: Those that are corrupt and those that will be corrupt soon." It was reported fixed in Word 2007, but "The jury is in: The Master Document feature in Word 2010 remains word processing's answer to Conan the Destroyer. Use it only if you enjoy pain and frustration." Microsoft Word 2010 Bible by Herb Tyson, MVP.

If so, you need to rescue what you can and try a different strategy.
