why don't my shortcut links work any more in word 2007?
i keep getting this message when i click on shortcut links that previously worked! "The Program used to create this object is package. That program is not installed on your computer. To edit this object, you must install a program that can open the object." help!!

Thanks for your reply Stefan-the links point to word documents and pdf documents located in other folders on a USB drive. I placed the links in a word document so that I could just click them and be taken straight away to the doc/pdf that I wanted. when they stopped working, I inserted hyperlinks, which worked ok but then only some of them worked, while others stopped working. It was really frustrating!

The external hard drive may be the problem here, but it's hard to tell for certain. If you point some links to a location on your hard drive, then do these work properly?
