number in footnote line
In one of my documents, which has seen many revisions, there is a number that shows up in the line above the footnotes. It gets stranger: it is the total number of pages in the document (will increase in the Show/Hide view as page numbers increase). I have looked Under References\Show Notes and not seen anything in the draft view. I have looked under Home\Styles\Style Inspector and nothing looks amiss. How do I get this out of there? Any thoughts

If you could attach an extract from the said document showing the problem, it might be possible to give definite advice.
From what you've described, it sounds like you have a NUMPAGES field in the footnote separator line. To access that line, switch to Draft View, then click on any footnote reference in the body of the document. Just above the footnotes there'll be a horizontal toolbar with a dropdown from which you can select the footnote separator (plus a few other footnote-related items).

That solved it! Thank you so much! I am so pleased that this will fix the issue in the document (and those in the future)
