Default How to automatically insert DAY instead of date?

Hi. I use Microsoft Word XP at work, and I just found out how to insert a date that automatically updates itself. However, is there a way to just insert the DAY instead of the whole date? Thanks in advance.

Hi kylera,

You could modify the DATE field that Word inserts with your current method. To do this:
• select the DATE field and press Shift-F9. You should see something like {DATE}
• edit the DATE field so that you end up with {DATE \@ DDDD}
• press F9 to update the field.
Note: the number of Ds (1-4) determines the day display format (eg '1', '01', 'Mon', 'Monday'). You can even get clever and have {DATE \@ "DDDD, D"}, for 'Monday, 1'

For even more, see
Using Date Fields in Microsoft Word
Generally, the CreateDate field is a better field to use in a template that you'll be using to generate new documents (letters, reports, etc) that call for a date. That gives you the current date when you create the document but doesn't change if you open the letter two weeks later to print another copy.
