How to automatically insert DAY instead of date?
Hi. I use Microsoft Word XP at work, and I just found out how to insert a date that automatically updates itself. However, is there a way to just insert the DAY instead of the whole date? Thanks in advance. |

Hi kylera,
You could modify the DATE field that Word inserts with your current method. To do this: • select the DATE field and press Shift-F9. You should see something like {DATE} • edit the DATE field so that you end up with {DATE \@ DDDD} • press F9 to update the field. Note: the number of Ds (1-4) determines the day display format (eg '1', '01', 'Mon', 'Monday'). You can even get clever and have {DATE \@ "DDDD, D"}, for 'Monday, 1'

For even more, see
Using Date Fields in Microsoft Word Generally, the CreateDate field is a better field to use in a template that you'll be using to generate new documents (letters, reports, etc) that call for a date. That gives you the current date when you create the document but doesn't change if you open the letter two weeks later to print another copy. |
