Select objects tool not working
Hi When doing drawings in Word the Select Objects tool (in the Find and Replace) block does not work. I have, for example, a few objects in my Word document such as lines and squares and want to select them all to copy and paste or group. But once I click on the Select Objects arrow, nothing happens when I try and select the objects. I use Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010. Thanks in advance. |

The Select Objects tool, the "lasso," only works if you save the document in Word 97-2003 format (*.doc).
In Word 2007/2010 formats, such as *.docx, see if you find the Selection pane useful (Home tab | Select | Selection Pane).

Thanks a million. Your answer has solved my immdiate need. I tried the Selection Pane but found that the Format Tab does not appear so I could not group the objects. Also, I can copy them but not move them with the same ease like it was in a Word 2003 doc. Is there a way around this? Thanks again. |

You can select objects in the Selection pane by clicking them. To select multiple objects, hold the Ctrl key as you click. You should then be able to use the Group command on the Drawing Tools Format tab.

it's 2015 and I still cannot select multiple objects
Word 2010. I cannot select multiple objects by any of the suggestions relayed previously. I need to group them so they don't rearrange themselves which they will do otherwise.

Make sure that all of the objects has the Text Wrapping set to something other than "In line with text." Then proceed with the suggestions already made in this thread.
As an alternative, you can insert a drawing canvas and cut and paste the objects into the canvas.

You are welcome.
Out of curiosity, which solution worked for you? Using a drawing canvas?

Hi Stefan - I had seen somewhere on the 2011 posts to make sure the text wrap was not in-line. What I didn't realize is that I had to go through EACH of the objects and do that. So your point to be sure to do that for each is what worked.
