Default printing whole line of text on one space!

As per the title. I opened a previous document to print it but a pop up box said there was a problem with it but Word had repaired it and I should press save - so I did, then the printing disaster started.
I then opened another document (work rotas) cut and pasted another four weeks worth (4 pages) and updated them. Went to print and had the same issue. The boxes were all ok but all the text was over-typed in each box

Any thoughts?

Windows 7 64 bits & Office 2007. Newish printer - Canon MG5250 but no previous problems.

Many thanks

Stewart

Default One-liner

It certainly sounds like a printer driver problem, but I wonder if it's possible that some weirdness is triggering font-space condensing. Since it doesn't show up in viewing your document, it's highly unlikely, but the same effect can be created by consensing font spacing by a large number.

After printing, is the doucment still OK as viewed, or has it taken on the overprint characteristics? If the latter, try clearing character formatting by selecting the text adn pressing Ctrl+spacebar.

Best,
Ulodesk

Thanks for that, but I'm not much further on!
Opened the document again tonight (remember it's already repaired & saved... or so it said!) but it came up again with the fault that it could repair by saving - this time I closed the dialogue box with the red cross.
On screen it looked fine but the page I selected to print came out like before, although it looked fine on the screen.
The highlight and ctrl+space just wrecked the layout of the whole document.

I tried another document (one I made last night rather than one I edited) again onscreen looked fine but printing was a disaster. I tried the ctrl+space again and the only visible sign of change was a reduction in font size. It still printed on top of each other - I'll try and attach a scan of it.

The fact that removing the character formatting radically changed the layout in one case, suggests that there is some formatting overriding the style. If your printer prints fine with Word documents created on another computer, that indicates one line of investigation.

Have you tried repairing Word using the installation disc?

One way of stripping such mystery overlays is to save your document as an XML document, then save that one back to a .docx. I have not used this technique, but it's possible that it might clear things up -- again, assuming that the problem is in Word, not the printer.

The fact multiple documents are affected suggests a problem with either the printer driver, or with Word itself. Try uninstalling then reinstalling the printer driver. Word 2007 can be repaired via Word Options|Resources|Diagnose.
