Hi,

I have Word 2002, and have been using it on the same computer for over 2 years. But a few days ago I logged into Word and one of the defaults had changed. The font changed to Times New Roman which is sort of an italic font. This is now my default font, and every time that I login, this is what I get. How this happened, I have no idea. But how do I change the default font to something else? I tried uninstalling Word, and reinstalling but that didn't help.

To change the default font, you can use the Default button in the Format | Font dialog box.

For what it's worth, if Times New Roman displays in italic, then the regular font variant has probably been damaged. Usually, TNR works just fine; I have it set as my default font.

I don't know what happened but I changed my default font to Verdana for the time being. I guess like you said, the regular font variant must have been damaged.

Since Times New Roman is included with Windows, you should be able to reinstall the font. I don't remember how to do it right now, but I might be able to find a KB article on the topic...
