Default variable Page references

Greetings...

Is it possible to insert a page reference within a Word document so that when the page numbers change, the reference changes too?

Example:

Let's say I want the reader to see information on 'Tires' page 14. I might say "See 'Tires' on page 14", and if the reader goes to page 14 - sure enough, the section on 'Tires" is there; however, next revision, editing moves the 'Tires" sectrion to page 15. I'd want the "See 'Tires' on page 14" change to "See 'Tires' on page 15"

Any way to make that happen?

Thanks!

Yes. This is called a cross-reference. You can find the controls under the References tab.

Assuming that Tires is in a Heading style, you can refer directly to it. You can insert the text. You can insert the page number.

To expand on this a bit as it is connected to my post.

If I cross-ref to a section (say 2.2.3) and add in new sections so that 2.2.3 becomes 2.2.6, is there any way to update the cross-ref except for deleting it and inserting a new one?

Simply do a print preview or press Ctrl-A, F9 to update all fields in the document.

Sorry, CTRL+A, F9 does not work. I inserted a new section in a chapter causing 3.2.2 to become 3.2.3. Hyperlinks to 3.2.3 did not update.
