Default Restricted Styles go wierd on different machines

Hi,

I've created a locked MS Word template (.dotx) which restricts the styles users can use. This is shared amongst the team who access it in a single location, add their content, and save it as a docx file.

However, we've start to experience that when someone sends the file to someone, or someone other than the user who created it opens it, the locked styles get a bit messed up.

Namely:
- the numbering on the List style looses the number at the start, although the text still has the List style applied (as you can see from the Style Manager toolbar)
- Sometimes opening the file up on a different machine looses all table styles. You can open the dotx again, copy in the content, and its back to the right style again.

Any ideas what might be going on? Or how I can find out?

Thanks!
R

One possibility is that you have the 'Automatically update document styles' option checked (Developer|Document Template|Templates) and the restricted Style definitions either don't exist on the target PC or, if they do, they've been formatted differently there.

Default Version conflict possibilty

We had a similar issue here recently, with list numbers and bullets disappearing in a document sent to authors. A couple, not all, were experiencing the problem. It turned out that they were using Word 2007, while the template had been newly created in 2010. Research indicated this as a recognized issue. After various tests, I found that saving the template in Word 2007 and reissuing the documents solved the problem.

Hardly a satisfactory solution -- ahem, Mirosoft! -- but we have not had the problem since then.

Best,
Ulodesk
