Stop Automatic Updating of Links from Excel
I have a large Excel file and a Word file that contains many links that pull data from this Excel file. Every time I make a small change in the Excel file, the Word file brings things to a halt for quite a few seconds as it updates all of the links. Is there any way that I can change Word so that it only updates the links when I tell it to, rather than automatically updating the links continuously? |

You can change the links to manual update. There are various ways of doing this, including:
• Add the 'update links' function to the QAT, then use that to change the links from automatic to manual; • Edit the LINK field codes to remove the '\a' switch (use Alt-F9 to toggle the field code display for editing); or • Lock the linked content via Ctrl-F11 (Ctrl-Shift-F11 to unlock).
