Check the setting for line spacing (Paragraph dialog box). It may have been set to a fixed amount which is too small to accommodate the font size.
You can change the default spacing in the Manage Styles dialog box: In the Styles pane (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S), click the Manage Styles button, and then click the Set Defaults tab. To set the default for new documents, select "New documents based on this template" before clicking OK.
