Automatic numbering in captions out of sequence
I am writing a document in which a lot of pictures need number labels. I have used captions in text boxes with the hope that they will automatically renumber should extra images be added/removed.
The problem is they don't quite renumber right on a single image. In the attached picture, the image on the left shows what happens when I update the fields - the text boxes renumber wrong. I want them to look like the image on the right with numbers increasing systematically. |

Caption numbering makes use of SEQ fields. For SEQ fields inside text boxes, the order of the numbers is determined by the relative locations of the text box anchors. To see object anchors, select that option in Office button | Word Options | Display. Once you see the anchors, you can drag them so that different text boxes are anchored to different paragraphs and in the appropriate relative order. Then update the fields.

Found a solution - put an invisible spreadsheet inside the text box and the captions will order correctly.

You mean you put the images "In line with text" in table cells? Yes, that should work too.
