Question Extracting information from Image in word

Hi,

I've created a document in word some time ago. It contains photo's that I need to get the timestamp from when they were created. The fine contains the original camera image name DSC12345 etc, but I don't know how or if I can extract the information about when the image itself was originally created.

Do I need to use an expert in this regard?, like a forensic expert, or does anybody have any ideas as to how I might be able to get this info?

Please help if you can. Well I wouldn't be asking if I didn't need to... wood eye..

First, do anything you do using a copy of the document.

Try saving as html. Does the image extracted this way give you the information you need.

Certainly a computer forensic expert may be able to do something.

When you embed an image into a Word document, all the EXIF data gets deleted if Word's image compression was switched on when the image was inserted (or if it has been applied since insertion). If either of those conditions applies, there won't be any date/time info to retrieve. Otherwise, simply change the file's extension to .zip (don't try to convert the document to a zip file), then extract the image file from the zip archive. All the EXIF data will be available.
