Using Pagination, Headers and Section Endnotes Simultaneously
I engaged someone to format a document for me in Word 2003. The document calls for having pagination and headers, as well as endnotes unique to each section. In other words, for example, the idea is to have the endnotes for chapter 1 appear at the end of chapter 1 and so on.
Now the individual I engaged is telling me: "When I put the section break in to stop/start the header/footer, it thinks we want the endnotes there. I'm at a loss how to fix it, because I have to put a section break so I can change the headers and footers." Is it indeed possible to have these three things simultaneously in the same document: pagination, headers and section endnotes? If so, any suggestions as to how to overcome the issue my formatter is having? |

Hi DBinSJ,
It's a little unclear what you mean by: Quote:
If you want to have your document configured to place the endnotes at the end of a Chapter, then you can't have any other Section breaks in that Chapter. Aside from using the 'different first page' and/or 'different odd/even' page layouts to control what's displayed in the headers & footers, you can manipulate their content via formula fields and/or STYLEREF fields. However, as it's not clear what you want, I can't really advise you further.

Clarification
Thank you very much for your reply.
As you say that my explanation was unclear, I would like to offer clarification. My instructions to the formatter for the document were that the document should have page numbers (pagination), centered at the bottom of the page, suppressed on certain pages, such as the first page of a new chapter. It was also requested that there be rotating even and odd page headers, again, suppressed on certain pages, such as the first page of a new chapter. Finally, it was requested that the endnotes for each section with endnotes - each chapter - appear at the end of each chapter, with the endnotes of each chapter beginning with the number 1, as I created them within the document. This, as opposed to appearing collectively or cumulatively at the very end of the book. The formatter is in essence telling me that this cannot be done, that MS Word does not allow for these three features to be used simultaneously. I would like to determine whether this is true. If it is true, then I will have to figure out some workaround. If it is not true, then ideally I would like to provide the formatter with some guidance or information that could be used to accomplish the task at hand. Thank you for your time. |

I hope you're not actually paying someone for this advice.
See attached.
