Default lost data after incorrect merge changes response

User A opens document and begins to make changes, saving along the way.

User B opens document. She is given a dialog asking is she wants to open read only, a copy or merge later or some such.

User B saves and is prompted do you wish to merge changes? Thinking she would have another opportunity later, she says No.

User A's changes are gone.

Is there any way to recover User A's changes?

Hi S,

Probably not. The decision to not merge the changes means Word was instructed to ignore whatever 'A' had done. There is a faint chance A's changes might still be recoverable from one of the temporary files Word creates while it's running, but even those generally get deleted when Word is closed.
