Header
The question is why your options are greyed out. I have attached an example of what you're talking about, easily created. Turn on hidden characters, if you like, to see the tab. The page number is an auto numbering page number field. It will apper on a grey background if you have field shading checked in your options (Options/Advanced/show Document Content/Field shading).
The page columns should have no effect on what goes on in the header. Did you type the other text into the header without a problem? Ulodesk
