Cannot enter text into form fields, Word 2007
I created a job application using form fields in Word 2007. At first, I am able to enter text into the form fields. But in the middle of filling it out, all of a sudden, when I click on a form field and try to enter text, nothing happens. I discovered that when I save & close the document and reopen it, the form fields will start working again. But I have to do that about 10 times to complete the entire application! What is wrong here, and how can I correct it? Thanks! |

I haven't a clue as to what is happening. Any chance you can post your document or one that acts like it? I'm just suggesting that because normally there is an answer to a problem here when something has been posted this long.

The Document
Okay, I've uploaded both the locked version and the unprotected version. The locked version is read-only and only allows the user to enter text into the fields. This is the one on which I experienced problems.
Thanks so much for your help!! Matt |

Of course, it may work just fine for you, since it works for me for awhile until it just stops.
That's always the issue, isn't it? That you can't replicate the problem when the help arrives. Let me know what you think. Thanks very much! |

Ah, here's something!
Okay, so in playing around with the document, I have discovered that usually (though not always) if I check the box next to "Delaware State Police Troop" in Question 5, then the I can no longer fill in text in any form fields in the rest of the document. Does that help you figure out what's wrong?

You are using legacy checkboxes and formfields with new content controls which are not designed to work in protected documents. I'm surprised you got it to work as well as you did. (You can have both in the same document, but not in the same section.) My advice is to use either all legacy fields (formfields and checkboxes) in a protected document or all content controls in an unprotected document.
See Content Controls Custom Checkboxes. This page has an Add-In you can download to put checkbox content controls in a Word 2007 document. However, all users of the form must have the Add-In installed. |

Charles-
Thanks so much for your help! So you're saying that the problem is that I put in some ActiveX checkboxes instead of sticking to legacy checkboxes? So, the problem will be fixed if I make them all legacy checkboxes? |

Still Having Problems
So, I changed all of the checkboxes to Legacy checkboxes, but I'm still having the same problem. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks so much. You're a lifesaver! Matt |
