Default Word slows to a crawl.

I am editing a document in Microsoft Word with Track Changes. It has slowed to a crawl. When I type a word or phrase it displays on the screen one character at a time at a rate of about one character per second. So I spend a lot of time waiting for the computer. Does anyone know what causes this and if anything can be done about it?

Hi traumatiziert,

If your tracked changes include images, tables, textboxes, cross-references, etc, Word can devour a lot of time just managing all the overhead. Track only the things that need to be tracked. For example, if you're just dragging content from one place to another, ask yourself whether all of what's being moved needs to be tracked. Sometimes, too, the amount of data to be tracked through such changes can be minimized by choosing to move the data that represents the least number of bytes (images consume a lot).
