Default save as webpage without creating new images

I've dragged and dropped 3000 .PNG images into MS word, and saved the resulting document as an html webpage, in the same folder as those 3000 .PNG files, but MS word creates a folder in that same directory, with ANOTHER copy of each of those 3000 images.

they are named image0001, image0002, etc..
rather than the names of my original images.

Can I not get MS word to just save the darn html file and have the html code refer to the images already in the directory , rather than recreating all the images into its own folder and taking up extra space ?

I don't know. But if I wanted to do this, I would create a Word document with a linked image inserted and attempt to save that document as html. See what happens.

If that works, write back and someone will probably help you with a macro that will convert your current inserted images into linked images. (I don't know that this can be done either.)

Word is designed to put words (and images) on paper. Everything else is ancillary.

Sorry to be answering your question with my ignorance, but I noted that no one else had answered you.

Thank you Charles Kenyon!
Inserting a linked image worked.. the resulting .htm file has the name of the original file in the IMG SRC command, rather than what it was before, which was the name of the new copy of the image created by Word: img00001

No macro for batch processing was necessary, I just clicked on "insert picture" then highligthed all 3000 files in the folder, and instead of clicking 'Insert' I clicked the arrow next to 'insert' and clicked "link to file" .... all 3000 pictures then appeared on my word document and the resulting .htm file referenced the pictures by their original names for all 3000 pictures.

Thank you for telling me what it was that I needed to look up how to do (inserting linked files). Having now seen more capabilities of Word.. I have to say it's almost as good as LaTeX !

Thanks again

Thanks for getting back to me. Sometimes it is just a matter of knowing what feature to try.
