Default Editing Cell in Table

Dear Colleague,
I have a document that was created in Word 2003 but the user has Word 2007. She saved the file as a .docx but there is a part of the table where the cells cannot be editied. The shorcut toolbar shows above the cell but the cursor will not show and she cannot edit the cells. This part of the table is on page 1 but on the second page the table continues and it functions fine. The cells may be edited without a problem. It is really strange. When she sends the file to me, I can edit the cells without a problem. Please help.

Louis

Sounds like one or more rows have been set as repeating header rows. Select the relevant rows and click to turn off the Repeat Header Rows command on the contextual Table Tools Layout tab.

Default Cannot enter data in Table

Dear Stefan,
I appreciate your reply but, if the problem is in the Header row, then why can I open up the document and edit it. In fact I did turn off repeated Header Rows and I still cannot edit the table. Any othe suggestions, I would appreciate. Thanks.

OK, I missed the part where you said that the table is editable on a different computer. :-(

Are both you and your colleague using the same version of Word? Has she tried repairing Office from Control Panel?

Smile Cannot Edit in Cells of a table

Dear Stefan,
We are using the same version of Word (2007). But the document was created in Word 2003 and saved as a .docx. I have not tried the repair feature from the control panel. I even had her send the document to me and I opened it. Then I saved it as a .docx and sent it back to her and I still could not enter data in the cells. It only occurs on the first page of the table. On the second page the cells are editable. Thanks for your reply.

Default Editing Cells in Table

Dear Stefan,
We figured it out. It was very simple. On the table in the first page that gave us a problem, I went to the last row on the page, the leftmost cell. This one could not be edited. I went to the next cell to the right and for some reason it was editable and pressed the enter key to add a line. Wunderbar! The cursor entered the leftmost cell and it worked.

As instructed, I repaired Office 2007.

Danke,
Alles Gute
The way you spell your name, I assume you may understand German.

It seems as if the content of the leftmost cell simply wasn't visible for some reason? I'd be interested in taking a look at the problem document (in the state before it was fixed that is), if possible.

I did learn some German in school, but I have forgotten most of it, unfortunately. My native language is Swedish, which explains the spelling of my name. :-)

Default Table with the uneditable cell

Dear Stefan,
Tag! I was in Malmoe, Sweden a long time ago. It was an Internship with a computer firm for a Summer. Your country is very nice and they were kind enough to send me to Stockholm and I enjoyed it very much.

I did not mean to assume you spoke German. I apologize for being so forward. I will get the file to you but I may open fine, like it did with me.

Your countryman Dag Hjalmar Agne Carl Hammarskjöld was a great man. I read His book Markings. He would be well recieved today in the UN.

Tack så mycket for your help.

Louis

Dear Stefan,
Here is the attachment in Word 2003. See what happens and tell me if you have the same problem.

In my tests, I haven't been able to reproduce the problem. This is strange. :-(

It's a small world, indeed. :-)

Over the past years, a few biographies on Hammarskjöld have been released; he certainly deserves the attention. I don't know if they have been translated to English (or German!) though.
