Simple Numbered List
How do I make a simple numbered list with 1. on the left margin of my page with a .5" hanging indent for each number? I want this type of number system always available to me. I do not want my numbers indented from the left margin. I always want hanging indents with my numbers. This is just a simple list that I shouldn't have to hand number in a sophisticated word processing program. How do I set this up?

Set up a numbered style with the desired settings. Use the built-in List Number style as a starting point. To apply the style, first display the Apply Styles pane (Ctrl+Shift+S); then type in the style name and press Enter. Click to select the actual number and right-click; on the context menu, choose Adjust List Indents. Make the desired changes. Finally, update the style by right-clicking again, and select Styles | Update <style name> to Match Selection.
