Default Auto Correct

I use autocorrect to quickly enter common text. Is it possible to specify the format of the replacement text?

e.g. LB should be replaced by Lyrical Ballads, but I would like Lyrical Ballads to be automatically displayed in Italics.

When you store the AutoCorrect entry, check the box for "formatted text."

Note this stores the AC entry in normal.dotm rather than in the AutoCorrect (.acl) file. When you quit Word, you should be prompted on whether you want to save changes to the global template. Since you just made such a change, you want to click on "yes."

Note also that AutoCorrect entries are language specific, unlike AutoText.

Default AutoCorrect Formatted

Charles

Thanks for the reply.

Although I have the radio buttons for "Plain Text" and "Formatted Text", The "Plain Text" Button is always selected and I can find no way of selecting the "Formatted Text".

Any suggestions?

Best regards

Rodney

Default Auto Format - Plain Text only option

Two and a half years after this question was posted, I have the same issue. I want "mw" to appear as "MW" in my style sheet for a novel I'm editing. It's a small thing but if I can't get the Auto Format option to work for this, how am I going to get it to work for something else? As the previous poster stated, Plain Text is the only choice; Formatted Text is grayed out so not an option. How do I get Auto Format to give me the option? Word is such a tease!

I'm not sure how this is happening. Word 2013. AutoCorrect Options:

Are we looking at the same dialog box?

It's the same dialog box, only I don't have the option to click Formatted Text. That's what I don't understand. What's the magic word, Word?

I am assuming that you tried clicking on it.

Such changes are saved in the Normal template. If for some reason changes to that template are not saved, this would also not be saved. I don't think this would keep you from clicking on the radio button, though.

Is your normal template by any chance read-only? I just tried in Word 2010 and had no trouble clicking the radio button even with a read-only normal template.

Yes, I tried clicking but it's grayed out, no can do.

Holy cow, I'll bet it has something to do with the Normal template. I tried playing around with changing it awhile back. I'll look into that further, see if I can restore it.

Thanks for the suggestion.

You could try Jay Freedman's AutoCorrect2007 backup utility. It saves all AC entries into a Word table which can be edited. After editing it to add what you want, you could run it in restore mode.

Did you select the 'result' in the Word document first? If you type the result, then go to auto-correct options, it will automatically take your selected text for the output field.

Duradel hit it on the head. Unless the desired result text is selected you can't save as formatted text because you can't format it within the AutoCorrect Options dialog!
