Field codes appearing in header/footer/TOC instead of actual text
Hi -
I'm a newbie here.. Now whenever I open a Word doc on my machine, only the field codes for the header/footer and TOCs display instead of the actual text. The required styles for the field codes are in the document. Word docs that displayed correctly a year ago that were used to create pdfs now only display with the field codes. We use Word to output from Author-It, a content-management system. We use a word template that uses AutoText elements for the header and footer. Our template was created in Word 2007. We've been using this template for years with few problems. Recently we all switched to new Windows 7 machines with Office 2012. I believe I just tried publishing for the first time since we got our new machines. Could this new version of Word be the problem? Do I need to save the template in Word 2012? I'm afraid to make any changes to the template unless it's absolutely necessary. Thanks! -Hannah |

Ok, I solved my own problem...
Under Word Options>Advanced>Show document content, there's a box called Show field codes instead of their values (duh)..I don't know how it got checked, but once I unchecked it everything was fine.. |

Alternatively, Alt-F9 toggles the field code display on/off.
