Default Captioning with different Headings

Good afternoon!

In finalizing some formatting in a large word document. I have changed certain headings from Heading 1 to Heading 7. Unfortunately, I've run into some problems with the related Table headings.

Namely as I change one heading from 1 to 7, automatically updating my table captions connects them to the PREVIOUS chapter; the one that still has Heading 1. (Continuous section breaks included at each end)

When I make a new caption in the Heading 7 chapter and use "chapter starts with style ... Heading 7" in the Numbering options, it works correctly for the following tables, but all of the tables in the Heading 1 sections are now incorrectly numbered! (i.e. Heading 1 should be 1.1, 1.2, etc.; Heading 7 should be A.1, A.2, etc.)

Can anyone help correct my captioning in the document?

Thanks,
Bryan

You'll have to create an additional caption label if you want to include the numbering of a different heading. If you are creating appendixes, take a look at http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...ppendixes.html.

Ugh! Well you hit the nail on the head - that's for sure! Thanks for the link. That's the instruction I was looking for. Hopefully, these will be a little more intuitive in later versions.

Thanks for the help!
